Coming Up With the 10 Keys to Collaborative Leadership in Action

I've had the pleasure of getting to know the collaborative and cooperative leaders in our greater community. Recently, I met with Erica Buswell who is the VP of Programs at Maine Farmland Trust and a 2018 graduate of Round Sky's Collaborative Leadership Certification Program. She briefly mentioned a list of key learnings that she compiled from the course to share with her management team. She wanted her team to benefit from the work she did in the training diving into:what is and how to live out collaborative leadership and values. 

Her list reminded me that living out our values with integrity is such a key thing in this ever-evolving world in our leadership, relationships, and teams. However, sometimes that takes some support and concrete tools to do that within our organizations.


Have you ever found yourself not quite sure how to live out some of your values in your leadership practice?

After reading her 10 learnings, I asked her if I could share it with you and luckily for all of us, she said yes! I particularly resonate with her 4th point:


Being a collaborative leader takes practice.  

You are going to make mistakes as you work to grow in this direction and that is ok. Acknowledge your mistakes with your team, and then move on. Don’t be afraid to embrace your humanity.
