Call for Workshop Proposals- 10th Annual Latino Helath Equity Conference.

This could be a great opportunity to share your work! See below and attached for more info. The 10th annual Familias en Acción Latino Health Equity Conference provides a forum for individuals, community organizations, health professionals and health systems to address health equity through discussion of policies, services, research, and education. This interactive annual conference serves an important role in bridging the gap between health research and health practices by working with Latinos to address health equity issues. It is also an opportunity for Latino advocates to obtain new information and new tools to help advance health equity issues at the local, regional, and national level. 2019 LHEC Theme – The Power of Nutrition: Seeding Latino Food Equity Science tells us that eating healthy foods can reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases and cancer, yet many Latinos struggle to access those foods. This conference will explore topics that address food equity for Latinos, with specific emphasis on how colonization has and continues to have impact on food choice, availability, and cultural identity. By hearing from experts and practitioners in the field, we will leave inspired, informed, and prepared to affect policy, programs, and initiatives that aim to improve Latino health. Conference organizers are now soliciting presentation proposals to improve Latino food equity: • Tools for decolonization of our food/ Changing oppressive cultures • Epigenetics (how food impacts risk for chronic disease) • Food and links to cancer • Tools for breaking the cycle of diabetes with healthy food • Immigration and food equity • Food equity versus food inequity- how food is distributed • Farm workers and their impact on food • Tools for increasing farm worker access to food • Changing access to food • Food Rx – tools for prescribing healthy food • Food and toxic stress – tools for reducing stress • Tools for developing Latino community gardens programs • Tools for adapting school food programs for Latinos • Other topics related to our food equity theme Proposals must be submitted online by Thursday, December 6, 2018.
